For the third and final project, I will have the option of doing a feasibility report, proposal, or edutainment article/blog. Being in engineering, all 3 options are viable papers that I may write at some point in my career. However, I believe the proposal would be the most useful schema for me to work on since a lot of the work I will be doing will be in mechanical contracting.
It is very possible that I will have to market my ideas or market my brand’s work over that of other companies. For example, if a contractor sends out a request asking for an HVAC system, it could my job to talk about all the direct and indirect benefits of a system my company could provide. The audience would be the building contractors and engineers who decide which company presents the best product at the most competitive price. My proposal would be written with the intent of being selected for the job and earning my company new revenue.
The schema could teach me the elemental breakdown of a proposal and how to best distribute information. An interesting point I learned in class was that many proposals talk about all the indirect benefits of their project rather than the actual project itself. (i.e. all the town benefits from redoing the roads in the center of town.) To write the proposal, I would need to research both my project of interest and any benefits/impacts it can have on seemingly unrelated topics.
